Geothermal Energy: The World’s Greenest Heating and Cooling System

Looking for an efficient, cost effective, and environmentally-friendly heating/cooling system? A geothermal heat pump is the greenest way to go. Learn the facts about geothermal energy.
An EPA study of energy efficiency concluded geothermal energy is the most environmentally friendly heating/cooling system.
The United States National Renewable Energy Laboratory concluded that geothermal energy is more efficient and cost-effective compared with conventional residential systems.
Available everywhere in the United States, geothermal energy can be found underground virtually anywhere.
Geothermal cost savings can be increased by geothermal energy incentives, available from federal, state, local, and utility sources.
Energy and cost savings of geothermal heat pumps will vary by region and type of conventional system they’re compared with. But the energy cost of geothermal versus conventional HVAC systems will always be lower — and the geothermal system will always be greener.

Geothermal Versus Conventional Cost Comparison

How much can you save in energy costs with a geothermal system? Calculate your home’s potential geothermal system cost savings.

Who Says Geothermal Energy is the Best Choice

Geothermal energy is recognized as the most efficient and greenest heating/cooling method by opinion leaders in government and private sectors.

Government agencies
See what the U.S. Department of Energy and EnergyStar are saying about geothermal systems.

EnergyStar has compiled a listing of approved geothermal products (PDF) including a wide range of WaterFurnace products that carry the EnergyStar emblem of approval.
The Department of Energy Consumer’s Energy Guide has data on geothermal system return on investment.
The EPA’s State and Local Climate Change program (PDF) is focused on helping consumers take advantage of the high energy efficiency and low environmental impact of geothermal systems.
Consumer, industry, and scientific organizations
The California-based Consumer Energy Center praises versatile geothermal energy.
The Geothermal Energy Association discusses the benefits of renewable geothermal energy.
Find out what the Union of Concerned Scientists has to say. Even major energy producers (power plants) recognize geothermal energy advantages (2.73 MB PDF) as a renewable source of power.

What Do Owners of Geothermal Systems Think?

Up to 95% of geothermal system owners would recommend installing such a system in the home. That’s reflected in a number of online users’ and owners’ forums, including GeoExchange where you can experience the viewpoints of geothermal system owners.

Wondering how the process works?
Here’s one homeowner’s account of a geothermal installation: geothermal system installation.

Create a Greener, More Energy-Efficient Home

Governmental agencies like the EPA and Department of Energy, consumer and industry groups, and geothermal system owners all agree: geothermal heating and cooling is considered the world’s greenest and most energy-efficient.

1. Increased comfort and Environmental Quality – With energy efficient heating and cooling not only is the air quality better but it is more evenly distributed combined with the reflective roofing and Low E widows it maintains whatever temperature you are looking for.

2. Lower Operating cost and More durable – With these systems in place your utility bills will be lower and do to the effeminacy the systems last longer and are low maintenance

More tips from SCE&G:
The first step in converting your home to natural gas is to check for natural gas availability in your area by calling your SCE&G Gas Sales office toll-free at 1-866-301-7272. We’ll have a new business representative contact you to check the availability or provide you with the costs, if any, to have a gas service line installed to your home.

Once gas availability has been determined, converting your home to natural gas involves just a few steps:

A local marketing representative will meet with you at your home to decide the appropriate gas meter location and to gather your information in order to create your gas account with us.

A SCE&G crew will install the service line from the street to your home. Digging is required. However, SCE&G will restore your lawn by reseeding and replacing any landscape necessary.

A contractor of your choice will install your natural gas equipment and connect it to the gas meter. You may want to check with us about available rebates and offers, or if the appliance you are converting qualifies for a Federal Tax Credit.

A permit is required for natural gas installations from your local jurisdiction. The contractor installing the equipment will file for a permit with the local inspection department. The permit requires an air-pressure test of your line. If it passes this test, an inspector will attach a green tag. This step must be completed before SCE&G can set and turn on your gas meter. Most jurisdictions also require a final inspection of the gas equipment.

A day will be scheduled for our meter crew to arrive at your home and set your gas meter. They may need access to your home to see the gas equipment or the thermostat. Also, your heating dealer or contractor will want to return and start up the heating system to be sure it is working properly.

After the inspection is complete, call our SCE&G Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-800-251-7234. At least one piece of natural gas equipment must be completely installed before we can turn it on for you. We may need to have access to the equipment and your thermostat.
Now it’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy the comfort, convenience and reliability that natural gas provides.

Blog Probes Real Estate Models

Posted by CityBlogSC on March 30th, 2008

www.REALonomics.net is a blog that is asking serious questions about where the real estate industry is going. More specifically, REALonomics poses challenges to the broker/owners to adopt models that will allow their organizations to become more transparent.

REALonomics.net advocates that the industry open up the property information portals to consumers and upgrade its approach to how it is interacting with the consumer by implementing more social networking such as www.CityBlogUSA.com, a community blogging network for every city in the USA.
